A car hood joins the lemonade crusade

As many of you know, Volvo Cars of North America has been a long time sponsor and supporter of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. First recognizing Alex as a Volvo for life nominee, and subsequently propelling her to reach her goal of $1 million in 2004, Volvo’s dedication to the cause has been unwavering. 2011 has proven to be no different, with Volvo once again donating a car to be raffled off, and introducing ALSF to an entirely new set of fans – NBA enthusiasts.

At the beginning of the current NBA season, Volvo partnered with the New Jersey Nets to house a car hood outside their locker room at the Prudential Center. Prior to each home game, members of the visiting team would sign the hood, including current NBA superstars LeBron James, Deron Williams, Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, and Blake Griffin, as well as Basketball Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Clyde Drexler. When all was said and done, the hood was sealed and has become a must-have piece of memorabilia for any diehard basketball fan. From now until June 17, bids can be placed at www.steinersports.com to take this one-of-a-kind item home, and perhaps the best part – all proceeds benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Making this even more special, Billy King serves as the General Manager of the Nets, and was a friend of Alex.
